The Covid-19 Horror, Why is it Destroying Our Morale?
One example to reflect upon, which displays Allāh's protection to His servants, is Yemen. A country in a devastating war, poverty, lack of services (electricity & water), scarcity of medication, outspread of contagious diseases, recession and currency collapse and inflation; a country in a situation in which, logically speaking, Covid-19 should wipe out the entire country in no time!
Despite all that people are handling the Corona-virus pandemic with great trust in Allāh and high morale while boosting their immunity system with the accessible nourishment.
I know stories of entire families, who recovered by staying at home without having to go to the helpless hospitals.
A true believer, who is equipped with firm faith in Allāh, should not allow anything to demoralize his morale and trust in Allāh SWT.
The Prophet PBUH said: (How wonderful is the matter of the believer; all that happens to him is good and this is only applicable to the believer. If bestowed with pleasure he expresses gratitude to Allāh and that is good for him; and if afflicted with adversities, he endures patience and that is good for him.) Muslim.
Under all circumstances the Muslim is in a win/win situation and collecting rewards abundantly.
With the Covid-19 horror, people are behaving as if it is the only cause of death; and that whoever is infected with it, death will be his next visitor. Practically, we see death rate caused by Covid-19 is utterly lower than heart disease, stroke, cancer, car accidents and many other causing death factors.
Panicking is physically, psychologically and morally detrimental. It diminishes ones immune system, morale and more importantly our trust and connection with Allāh SWT. Panicking can even make the regular flu symptoms fatal.
Alhamdulilah, we have seen and heard of thousands of recovery cases from Corona-virus. Hence, show confidence in Allāh and take the required precautions and medications. And realize that Allāh, through calamities, wants to elevate your rank and obliterate your sins.
Jaber RA narrated that the Prophet PBUH said: (On the Day of Judgement, healthy people would wish, when the people trialed with calamities in this life are given their reward, that their skin was cut off with scissors in this life (i.e wishing to be trialed with calamities more than them in order to receive such reward)) Sahih At-Tirmidi
The Prophet PBUH said: (A man would have a rank (i.e. in paradise) set for him by Allāh, but his deeds will not make him reach it, so Allāh will continue putting him in trial with what he hates (i.e. calamities, illness, loss of close ones…etc.) until he reaches it) Sahih Al-Jaama' – Al-Albani
I know reacting correctly when afflicted with calamities requires great Imaan (faith) and before that Allāh's help and guidance. This is why we should always work hard to increase our Imaan by complying with Allāh's commandments and be in perpetual connection with Him SWT by fulfilling our duties toward Him Azza wa Jal. True believers, under all circumstances, should always recourse to Allāh whether in good or bad.
We ought to realize that worldly trials are inevitable; Allāh explicitly confirmed that by addressing it with assertive clauses; He, the Exalted, said: (And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits) (Noble Qur'ān 2: 155)
But look how Allāh the All-Merciful ended the ayah; He, the Exalted, said: (but give good tidings to the patient (155) Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allāh, and indeed to Him we will return.") (Noble Qur'ān 2: 155-156)
What is the reward of those who endure immense patience?
Allāh, the Exalted, said in the subsequent ayah: (Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided.) (Noble Qur'ān 2: 157)
What can bring you more assurance than being accompanied by the custody and care of Allāh Azza wa Jal?
Be with Allāh and Allāh shall be with you. Express your inability and dire need for Him SWT in your supplication and prostration in prayer. And be assured that Allāh will certainly choose whichever is beneficial for you in this life before the hereafter.
Remember Allāh SWT wants you to meet Him with the utmost rewards possible. The Prophet PBUH said: (No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that.) (Al-Bukhari & Muslim)
May Allāh protect His servants and uplift this disruptive pandemic from upon the Ummah.
